SMK Phyton Air Nurseries Inc. is a subsidiary of SMK Group Holdings Inc.
SMK Phyton Air Nursery is conveniently located in Surrey BC and is committed to growing and distributing plants & herbs that are critical to the establishment of a biodiverse natural antimicrobial ecosystem within your home.
SMK functional plants as a service (FSaas) using a “Hybrid integrated ode”, and in the future, development combining a high output Aeroponic farming matrix and online ordering processes with self distribution pickup and APP Mobile delivery subscription, while providing a secure safe social distance program
Our idea is to create very cost effective “Smart Pot” systems that will auto grow “Clean Air Scrubbing” plants without any soil that will adjust the water, light, and nutrient levels on your behalf.
We will design and build very cost effective “Smart Pots” which will consist of the pot with appropriate sensors and controls for growing plants hydroponically.
A Smart router (Industrial mini PC plus router) that is currently in the market would communicate to our hydroponic controls through WiFi to ensure proper water and nutrients for optimal plant growth.
Our central Backend application program (AI) in the IOT server for growing each specific functional plant would control all Smart Pots.
SMK will be collaborating with Darvonda Nurseries, one of the major players in growing indoor plants in BC, to complement SMK’s own project on the Smart potted “Clean Air Scrubbing” House Plants.
At the SMK farm site, SMK will do R & D with some help from local Universities to develop the technology for growing and propagating the Air Scrubbing indoor house plants hydroponically in the Smart pot while Darvonda will perform their usual business as the nursery for Indoor flowering plants. SMK’s greenhouse (5.5 acres) & newly built barn (14,000 square feet) will be fully utilized for both companies.
Research has shown that some plants can clean the air.
Today’s more tightly sealed homes, while reducing fuel bills and lowering energy use are now causing indoor pollutants to accumulate in our homes and work places causing “Sick Building Syndrome” and can include headaches, cough, sore throat, or allergy issues. Until recently, we were only concerned with outdoor air pollution and indoor air pollution was not considered a health threat.
Every exposure to nature—from caring for plants to just sharing a space with organic elements—promotes a sense of peace and enhances overall wellbeing.
Relationships define the quality of your life. We are here to nurture connections between people and plants and the places they both thrive. A person usually spends more than half a day at home, including a good night’s sleep. It is important that the microclimate in your home is as harmless as possible, which can be achieved by having indoor plants.
About “Clean Air Scrubbing” Plants
Research has shown that some plants can clean the air.
Today’s more tightly sealed homes, while reducing fuel bills and lowering energy use are now causing indoor pollutants to accumulate in our homes and work places causing “Sick Building Syndrome” and can include headaches, cough, sore throat, or allergy issues. Until recently, we were only concerned with outdoor air pollution and indoor air pollution was not considered a health threat.
The pollutants commonly found in the home that pose health risks are known as volatile organic compounds (or VOCs) because they evaporate readily into the indoor air that we breathe.
These three pollutants are released constantly through everyday objects in your home. Studies have demonstrated that certain houseplants can remove indoor air pollutants.
Plant cells at the small openings in the leaves absorb carbon dioxide and other substances from the air. Pollutants can be trans-located to the roots where the plant may use them or release them into the potting medium.
Through photosynthesis plants convert the carbon dioxide that we exhale (which is toxic) into fresh oxygen. They also have the magnificent ability of removing other toxins from the air that we are consistently breathing in.
Why is this relevant to you? In a time with the Coronavirus pandemic, flu season, and the fears for our health, we need plants more than ever, especially as many more people are staying in their homes and forgoing time in nature due to mass hysteria. Detoxifying the air in your home is health imperative, and here is why:
Many of us are now self quarantining in our homes. Due to this new development the air quality in these enclosed spaces is more polluted than ever.
NASA has stated that houseplants are the most effective way to naturally purify the air. With viruses and bacteria surrounding us, live plants can eliminate toxins in the air and prevent your home from becoming a breeding ground for these nasty viruses and bacteria to grow and mutate.
While we breathe in the fresh air, we breathe in phytoncides, airborne chemicals that plants give off to protect themselves.
Phytoncides have antibacterial and antifungal qualities which help plants fight disease. When people breathe in these chemicals, our bodies respond by increasing the number and activity of a type of white blood cell called natural killer cells or NK. These cells kill tumor- and virus-infected cells in our bodies.
Volatile phytoncides are able to penetrate the lungs and skin into the human body. They inhibit the development of pathogenic microorganisms, protecting against infectious diseases. Phytoncides normalize heart rate and blood pressure, participate in metabolism, reduce blood sugar levels, have a beneficial effect on the blood circulation in the brain, liver condition, bactericidal activity of the skin, as well as on the immune and nervous system.
Inhalation of volatile phytoncides of coniferous trees increases the resistance of erythrocytes to a lack of oxygen, almost doubles their lifespan, and has a positive effect on the function of the entire circulatory system. It is no coincidence that people living in forest areas are much less susceptible to diseases of the upper respiratory tract compared to the townspeople.
Volatile phytoncides affect the physicochemical composition of the air. They increase the concentration of negative ions in the air and reduce the number of positive ones. Phytoncides ionize oxygen in the air, thereby stimulating its biological activity. In addition, they improve the efficiency and economy of cell energy, and contribute to the settling of dust particles.
We will be researching which plants are best for cleaning indoor air under various conditions as well as how many plants are needed to effectively clean the air.
Ficus Rubber Plant
F. elastica reported to be having inhibitory effects against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The fruit latex extracts from this plant were known to be possessing antibacterial and antifungal activities due to the presence of active components such as tannins, saponins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and enzymes.
Similarly, the barks extract of F. infectoria were also reported to be effective against bacterial strains causing infections in humans.
It has also been reported that Ficus plant extracts are responsible for curing numerous diseases like
respiratory diseases, sexual disorders, central nervous system (CNS), gastric problems, skin diseases and diabetes. Due to its antibacterial activity, Ficus species were used in folk medicines as an astringent, carminative and to cure stomachic, vermicide, hypertensive and helminthic. This plant has gained much importance in Ayurveda for preparing many medicines which cures dysentery and diarrhea. In addition to saturating the air with oxygen, moisturizing, and purifying from toxins, it releases phytoncides which supress the vital activity of microorganisms.
Snake Plant
Sansevieria helps the human body adapt to changing conditions, increasing its immunity. Thus, it protects against colds, reduces the harmful effects of changes in atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity. It also protects from toxins released by synthetics and linoleum. Studies Air-Purifying Plant: Sansevieria trifasciata is in NASA’s list of air-purifying plants, improving indoor air quality by passively absorbing toxins (formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and toluene. Analgesic/ Antiseptic: Study of ethanol and water extracts of Sansevieria trifasciata leaves showed dose-dependent and significant (P<0.05) increase in pain threshold in the tail-immersion test. The water extract showed not significant effect on brewers’ yeast-induced fever I rats; however, the EtOH extract had significant reversed yeast-induced pyrexia.
Philodendrons
Plants have a beneficial effect on human health, performing a number of functions. One of them is microclimate improvements as a result of the increase in air humidity, air ionization, increase in the amount of oxygen and positively influences the human psyche.
Another important function of indoor plants is to clear the air of dust, toxic chemicals and pathogenic microorganisms that can cause various diseases. Plants produce biologically active volatile substances= phytoncides- which have antimicrobial properties
Kalanchoe
The aerial part contains flavonoids, tannins, polysaccharides, organic acids, micro and macro elements (AI, Mg, Ca, Cu, Si, Mn). Kalanchoe juice acts like aloe juice, has an anti-inflammatory effect, promotes the rapid cleansing and healing of wounds and ulcers, does not irritate the skin and mucous membranes, and has little imposition of secondary sutures. They are used in complex treatment of patients with erysipelas. In ophthalmology, juice is used in the treatment of burns, injuries, keratitis, corneal erosion, degenerative damage to the elements of the eye, retinal pigment degeneration, herpetic keratitis. Used in dental practice for gum disease, in obstetric and gynecological practice.
Smart Pot Technology
IOT connected smart pot technology that makes sure your air scrubbing plants get the optimal configuration of water, oxygen, and nutrients, while special LED grow lights provide them with the energy they need to thrive. No pesticides, plant hormones, or any other harmful substances are used.
The SmartPot will be monitored and controlled from your phone, with hydroponics using LED light, nutrient dosing, pH and water sensors. This allows you to monitor your plant from anywhere in world you may be due to travel. The data is sent to the SmartPot cloud server via Bluetooth Smart technology for analysis using the IOT sensors to enable our data-based decision-making before coming back to your mobile device. This will allow real-time configuration of tasks to achieve optimal growing conditions for your air scrubbing plant as well as alert you when you need to re-order nutrient cylinders.
Our data base will initially consist of plant grow recipes for air scrubbing plants, but can be expanded to include other crowd sourced specialty plants like orchids.

Scope on Aeroponics
Growing sustainable food should always be made one of the highest priorities for society.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought distinct challenges to many sectors of the food supply chain that have reshaped their operations with physical distancing, the use of personal protective gear and equipment modifications – all of which are contributing to rising costs.
Unfortunately, with the current pandemic, access to affordable and nutritious food is a major concern or an ongoing struggle for many Canadian families. Today more than ever, people have become more health conscious with a desire for accessible and reliable home-grown food.
While Canada is one of a small group of countries that could be self-sufficient, we export much of our food and import almost 9%.
We endeavor to seek new solutions to food security and sustainability issues on a small scale for individuals and families that is modular and can grow and be expanded to individual needs.
SMK will design and develop a very cost effective artificial intelligent IoT system which will be used for modular microgreen cultivation units using aeroponic growing techniques.
SMK is primed to take a leadership role through the following initiatives:
